What is Correlation is statistics?

According to Wikipedia :  

In statistics, dependence refers to any statistical relationship

 

between two random variables or two sets of data.

 Correlation refers to any of a broad class of statistical 

relationships involving dependence.

An example given is the following:

The Japanese eat very little fat, drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Americans. 

The French eat excessive amounts of fat, drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Americans. 


CONCLUSION:  Eating fat doesn't kill you. Drinking wine doesn't kill you.  Speaking English is the killer!

And remember  Drinking beer, makes you rich!!

How fast can you trade;

On August 1, 2012, starting at market open (9:30 EDT),  many NYSE stocks had extremely high trade rates: several sustaining over 100 trades per second.

Zooming in to a 1 millisecond interval chart, we can see one second of data which shows 39 trades.

Delaware County Woman Claims $77.4 Million Powerball Jackpot

Patricia Chandler, of Upper Darby, Delaware County, today claimed a $77.4 million Powerball® jackpot from the Saturday, June 22, 2013 drawing. 

Chandler's ticket correctly matched all five white balls, 13-19-23-33-57, and the red Powerball 28, to win a prize of a $131.5 million annuity, or $77.4 million cash, less 25 percent federal withholding. 

Chandler, holder of the single jackpot-winning ticket from that drawing, elected to receive the cash prize totaling $77,412,904.79. 

Chandler purchased the ticket at Federal Beer, 1440 Federal St., Philadelphia. The retailer earns a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
